Pizza! My mouth starts watering every time of thing of it and I am sure so does yours, I mean who can say no to pizza. There are so many shops at the market that sells different types of pizza to cater to the needs of all types of customers, but have you ever tried making pizza at home? If not yet scroll down and follow my recipe to make delicious pizza of your choice at home. It’s not a very easy-peasy process but definitely worth a try.
Pizza is an Italian dish, now loved by people all over the world. It is a perfect blend of tomato, cheese and a perfectly baked crust enough to make your mouth watery. Venture beyond Italy you will find different versions of pizza, in India, pizza has become more than just a meal; local toppings like paneer, chicken and momo have found their place alongside global classics. This is my attempt to make delicious pizza at home so let’s raise a slice and dive into the world of culinary delight.
How to make pizza at home?
INGREDIENTS
For pizza base
- 1 tsp dry yeast
- ½ tsp sugar
- 2 cups maida/flour
- Some salt
- 2 tsp oil (preferably olive oil)
For pizza sauce
- 4-5 medium sized tomato
- 2-3 tsp oil
- 6-7 pieces of peeled garlic
- 1 finely chopped onion
- Some basil leaves
- Some oregano
- 1 tsp red chilli flakes
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp tomato sauce/puree (optional)
- Little sugar
- ½ tsp red chili powder
How to make pizza base at home?
- In a small bowl, take 1 tsp dry yeast and ½ tsp sugar and now add some warm water in the bowl.
- Mix the yeast and water properly and keep it aside for a minute.
- Now to prepare the dough, take a big bowl add 2 cups of maida (you may also mix any other flour of your choice).
- Add some salt to the flour and give it a good mix.
- Now add the yeast to the flour but make sure to stir it few seconds before adding it to the flour. Now gently mix the flour.
- Add 2 tablespoon of oil in the bowl and with the help of warm water prepare the dough. Don’t be harsh while mixing the dough.
- Once all the mixture comes together, take the dough in a flat surface and start stretching and pulling it with the help of your palm until the dough is no more sticking to your hand and has a soft texture.
- This may take around 10-15 minutes but to prepare a soft dough you need to keep kneading the dough.
- Add some oil in the bowl and transfer the dough in the bowl.
- Cover the bowl with a damp muslin cloth and keep it aside for 40-45 minutes.
- After 45 minutes take out the dough and make a ball of it and then cut it into small portions.
- Take one of the portions roll it up into a ball and make sure to cover the rest of the dough with the muslin cloth.
- Roll the pizza dough up to your size choice and with the help of a folk prick the dough to prevent it from puffing.
- Now on a tawa/pan add the pizza base and cover it with a lid and cook it on low flame until it starts puffing a little.
- Turn the pizza base to the other side, apply the pizza sauce add some grated cheese and layer it with the vegetables of your choice.
- Cover the lid until the cheese has complete melted, the vegetable looks little cooked and the base looks good (do not leave the pizza covered for a long time or you may burn the base).
How to make pizza sauce from scratch?
You can also use tomato sauce or any other sauce of your choice to apply on the base or you can buy ready made pizza sauce available in the market. But if you wish to make pizza sauce from the scratch with the help of natural ingredients like I do, you can follow my recipe and make your own Indian style tangy pizza sauce at home following these steps below.
- Take 4-5 medium sized tomato and cut them into half.
- In a pan add 2-3 tablespoon of oil (preferably olive oil), once the pan is heated up add 6-7 pieces of peeled garlic and 1 finely chopped onion in to the pan. (Onion is totally optional)
- Give it a good stir for a minute or two, add some basil leave, oregano and 1 tablespoon of red chilli flakes. After stirring it for a minute, add in the tomatoes in the pan and 1 tablespoon of salt.
- Cover the pan for 5 minutes until the tomatoes starts losing its skin.
- Uncover the pan and start mixing the tomatoes until it turns into a puree type texture.
- On top of it add a little bit of sugar and ½ tablespoon of red chilli powder and keep stirring for 2-3 minutes.
- You can also add 2 tablespoon of tomato puree or ketchup if you wish.
- Now turn off the stove and keep the pan aside and let the mixture get into a normal temperature.
- Once the tomato puree has cool down pour it in a blender and blend it for few seconds.
- And your pizza sauce is ready.
